Martin County Comp Plan Draws Fire From State

Martin County Comp Plan Draws Fire From State.

The State Department of Community Affairs has raised numerous objections to the proposed amendments to the Martin County Comprehensive Plan. The amendments, which would allow the county to waive wetland rules for public projects, were approved by the County Commission, but state officials say they are vague and overbroad. The state report also stated that the amendments are inconsistent with state law because they lack data and analysis for reasons behind the waivers of wetlands regulations and lack language governing how potential harm to wetlands will be minimized and mitigated. The county has three options to fix the plan: limit the scope of the amendment, change its wording, or create a formula to determine which projects should receive the waivers. The county has until January 5th to conduct a final public hearing to adopt the changes.
