Shoreline Restoration Brevard/Indian River County

MRC Volunteers have cleared Brazilian Pepper from over 500,000 sq. feet of shoreline in Brevard and 1,000,000 square feet in Indian River County along the Sebastian River this past winter. There are pepper busts every week in Brevard and Indian River Counties. Volunteers are always needed so call (321) 504-4500 to help make a difference. MRC board member Jack Dearhammer has pepper busted 238 properties in the Archie Carr Wildlife Sanctuary and 214 properties in South Melbourne Beach, logging over 2,500 hours in the process. Interested property owners in Indialantic and Melbourne Beach can phone Jack Dearhammer at 726-6509. You’ll soon see what he means! John Baker recently completed nine years of pepper busting on Samson’s Island, a 52 acre public spoil island in the Lagoon. Meanwhile, over 340 homeowners in Satellite Beach have benefited from John’s free pepper busts. Thanks to John and Jack for their super volunteering. Also a big thank you to Brad Maneley, Dick Noeske, Gary Luba, David Svatik, Red McClean, Space Coast Marine Institute, Tim Glover, Donald McDonald Park Staff, Donna Smith, Amy Smith, and especially Lisa Allgeyer.
