At Least Fifteen New Calves This Season

By the end of February, scientists from the New England Aquarium had identified fifteen new calves this season and an additional six individuals through photo-identification. An average season yields eleven or twelve calves. Final numbers will not be determined at least until the end of the season, which is March 31. In previous years some calves have not been spotted until they reach their summer feeding grounds in Cape Cod Bay.
