Ray Bunton of the St. Johns River Water Management District gave a presentation on the districts efforts to acquire lands in Volusia to protect water resources and wildlife corridors. With the help of Volusia County they hope to acquire 36,000 acres for the corridor. The project was moved to the A list for state CARL funding. Some residents of Deltona are concerned that the corridor will block their potential for growth. The Indian River Lagoon Blueway Project continues to sit on the unfunded list. Bunton said only 2% of the blueway parcels that were appraised for acquisition got purchased because of the large difference between the price landowners were willing to sell waterfront property for and the appraised price.
