Tommy Strowd from the South Florida Water Management District discussed the latest round of freshwater releases from Lake Okeechobee. The District attempts to maintain the lake at a level low enough to prevent flooding but high enough to provide water to the surrounding area and agriculture. The agencies use pulse releases once the lake reaches a target level in an effort to prevent the need for larger discharges during the wet season.
