   National, state and local recognition was given to the Eco-Troop of Pelican Island Elementary for establishing a nature preserve for scrub jays, gopher tortoise, sand hill cranes, scrub lizards and the Indigo snake. The 15 lot conservation preserve was established with a $218,000 grant initiated by the Eco-Troop. The land was given to the school district and the Audubon Society will act as the land's trustee.
