Scenic Highway Native Plantings Progress

On Oct. 26th 2002, 300 volunteers from the MRC, St. Joseph Catholic School and Melbourne Central Catholic High School, restored 4 acres of Lagoon shoreline, as part of Make a Difference Day. The project was selected from over 4,000 as one of the 10 National Winners. The event was done in honor of Curtis Brown, a young boy who loved nature and fell victim to the 911 tragedy. Thanks to FPL and MRC, Curtis' parents and sister were flown from Washington DC to participate in the event. In the photo, Jim Egan and Damien Sanfilippo of MRC receive a check for $4,000 from Mary Loschiavo of St Joseph as part of the Make a Difference Day Award provided by the Paul Newman Foundation.
