Ground Breaking for the Lagoon House

Scenic Highway Native Plantings Progress

Overlooking the Indian River Lagoon on Ais Point there will soon be a new building dedicated to the enrichment of the lagoon's resident and will serve as a welcome center to the Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byway. The ground breaking for the Lagoon House took place on July 11 with the first shovel full of dirt being moved by Palm Bay Mayor John Mazzioti, Deputy City Manager, Sue Hann, Jim Egan, Marine Resources Council, and Ted Moorhead, Indian River Lagoon Scenic Byway (see photo on right). The million-dollar facility will include a free visitor information center where visitors can enjoy exhibits featuring archaeological, historical, natural, cultural and recreational displays represent the vast resources of the lagoon region. The Lagoon House will also house the Library of the Indian River Lagoon. The Lagoon House will be operated by the Marine Resources Council and serve as MRC's volunteer coordinator center.
