MRC Volunteers Plant over 1,000 Mangoves

In the last three months, invasive species were removed from 463,652 square feet of Indian River Lagoon shoreline in Martin and St.Lucie County with support from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, the Florida Coastal Management Program, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. On the right picture, Phil Meyers, a biologist at Florida State Parks (DEP) is removing australian pines at St.Lucie Inlet State Park. A big thank you to volunteer David DeGaust, who contributed a record 437 hours this past year and was awarded "Volunteer Pepper Buster of the Year" during MRC's membership meeting last October. Please join us in our efforts to restore the natural habitats of the Indian River Lagoon'' shoreline. To volunteer, call (321) 504-4500.
