2002 Season Highlights


  • 400 people attended 11 training classes
  • 124 new volunteers joined MRC's program
  • 720 total volunteers in MRC's program
  • 16 mother/calf pairs spotted
  • 10 individual whales spotted (approx.)
  • 5 yearlings returned with their mothers
  • 90 calls to MRC's hotline
  • 249 sightings reported to U.S. NAVY
  • 325 right whales left in world (approx.)
  • 2 confirmed cow/calf pairs photo-identified with the help of shore-based volunteers

Amazing Fact

There are more than twice as many MRC volunteers looking out for the North Atlantic Right Whales than there are North Atlantic Right Whales in the world!
