Whale Program Gets Office Volunteer for Season
Mridula Srinivasan joined MRC's efforts this year with
the Northern Right Whale Monitoring Program. Mridula
helped us get caught up with sighting maps, organize our
databases, and obtain educational materials. At 24 years
old she earned her second Master of Science degree from
the Florida Institute of Technology in December.
Although her first Master's degree was in zoology, this
time she earned her Master's in Environmental Resource
Management. Mridula plans to attend Oregon State
University for doctorate studies on right whales or
dolphins. If she works with right whales, she would very
much like to study the correlation between shipping traffic
and water pollution, especially since right whales transect
many shipping lanes during their annual migration to the
calving ground. Since right whales are often wounded by
ships, pollution may also play a role in infection as well.
Mridula's assistance this season is greatly appreciated
by Julie Albert and the MRC. Without her, you might not
have gotten this newsletter when you did! She was just
hired by MRC in March to work part time. Thanks for all
your help, Mridula!
